The Mother In Danger

Mr. Dempster had been served as the honourable Reverend in Deptford village for more than 5 years and was well respected. However on the evening of December 27th, a serious incident happened to Mrs. Dempster. She was heavily injured which lead her to an early delivery. The incident is now being investigated.

At around 5:58 pm on December 27th, Mr. and Mrs. Dempster was out on the street for a walk when most people were at supper. Mr. Dempster believed it was good for his pregnant wife to have a walk everyday despite of the darkness of the winter evening. The couple was enjoying their private time. However according to the village tradition, pregnant women were not supposed to be present out door during their late pregnancy.

It was believed that Mrs. Dempster was hit by a snowball on the head that she suffered from intensive pain. But the person who threw the snowball was unknown.

The only witness presented at the time was Dunstan Ramsay, the 10 year old son of Mr. Ramsay. However, he confessed he had seen nothing unusual on that day. “I was walking toward my home because I knew it was the time for supper. If I go home late my mother will be worried.” He also confirmed that on the night, it was very dark at the time and nobody was around.

After Mrs. Dempster was injured, Dunstan Ramsay lent his sled to Mr. Dempster and they immediately sent Mrs. Dempster to Dr. McCausland. Unfortunately because of the injury, Mrs. Dempster was urged to deliver the child prematurely. The delivery was successful and both the child and the mother were safe. However, Mrs. Dempster was diagnosed with permanent brain damage and had little probability to regain her sanity.
